When I visited Glennview Cemetery to fulfill a Find a Graverequest, the groundskeepers were so helpful. They took me to the grave and spent several minutes cleaning the marker so that my photo would look nice! It's a tough job to work outside when the temperature is over 100ยบ!
I like to stop at cemeteries that I see when I'm driving around. Imagine my disappointment when I found that Brakeman Cemetery was surrounded by a chain-link fence with a locked gate.
This is the grave of my 5th great-grandfather, William Faris (1734-1818). The original marker will probably disintegrate eventually and seems to be sinking, but the nice new military marker was placed there sometime after 2005. You can see where he's buried on Find a Grave.
This huge mausoleum is found at Maplewood Cemetery. It's engraved "Mangum, 1905". Mangum is a common name around here, but it's also the name of a street in downtown Durham, so I bet it's the final resting place of someone really important!
Since I promised myself I wasn't going to ever re-post photos for the entries in this blog, you're looking at the "best" macro I shot this year that I haven't used yet. Although "best" is so subjective, IMO, maybe I should call it my favorite?
And below is a sampling of thumbnails of my favorite macros that have been previously posted in this blog, all taken in 2008:
The huge gray coal silos of the Consol Energy's Bailey Mine site overshadow Enon Cemetery below them. This is what the cemetery looks like from along Enon Church Road.
When I got a new camera, I started feeling ambitious. I've been entering my very ordinary snapshots on every photo meme site I can find. Maybe there's someone out there who won't think they're all just awful!
I would really love to hear what people think. I've also added the ratings recently in case there are people who have an opinion but don't feel like writing a comment!
All of these pictures are stored on Picasaweb and I've set up a slideshow of them on the bottom of the left column. If you're interested, clicking on the entry will open another window where you can see more info, such as the date and location of the picture. Or check out this map showing where my pictures were taken.
Clicking on the post title should take you to the challenge where I've submitted the photo.
